Sailing the J Hanuman in Newport 2009
Given the sophisticated and complex nature of modern yachts, the need for the owner to have on-site professional representation throughout the entire design, specification, bidding and tendering process, is greater than ever and is key to the success of the project. The on-site representation I offer throughout this process in the owners interests raises the level of project organization, ensuring that the vessel is properly constructed and equipped, keeps the necessary budgetary constraints intact whilst ensuring scheduling goals are met.
Once the vessel has completed acceptance trials, I also offer complete continuity in the form of full post-construction support for the owner, captain and crew . This continuity translates into faster problem-solving, less down-time and lower operating costs for vessel owners. I routinely assist in resolving warranty issues, procuring best value replacement parts and am often called upon to manage modifications that may subsequently be desired.

Newport Bucket Regatta 2009The J Class yachts, RANGER and the new Huisman replica of ENDEAVOUR II, HANUMAN, started a minute apart, in the first contest between these designs since the 1938 Americas Cup, also off Newport! In an extremely close contest, HANUMAN was able to maintain her lead, however RANGER shaved off 22 seconds, leaving HANUMAN to finish third and RANGER 38 seconds behind in fourth.
In their second engagement on the race course, the new Huisman J-Class Sloop, HANUMAN was able to best J-Class RANGER by a minute and 50 seconds. Without a doubt, these two yachts are destined to a great future within the re-emerging J-Class fleet!

J Class Hanuman training for Newport Bucket
Back in 1937 the original “Endeavour II” was built in steel at the Nicholson’s Yard and designed by Charles Nicholson. “Endeavour II” was built to battle the J’s in the America’s Cup Race that year, maximizing the waterline to 87ft she challenged “Ranger” but did not beat her.
